Human growth hormone (HGH), also known as somatotropin, is a 191 amino acid single-chain polypeptide produced by somatotropic cells within the anterior pituitary gland. As its name implies, scientists originally found it to be responsible for growth regulation during childhood.

Somatropin injection is used to treat growth hormone deficiency (inability to produce enough growth hormone), chronic kidney disease, idiopathic short stature (unexplained shortness), Turner syndrome, short stature homeobox-containing gene (SHOX) deficiency, and short stature born small for gestational age (SGA) 

GERIOSTIM™ is a human growth hormone (HGH) produced by recombinant DNA technology using Escherichia coli. The protein is comprised of 191 amino acid residues and has a molecular weight of about 22,125 daltons. The amino acid sequence is identical to that of human GH of pituitary origin.
